Welcome to Nursing at Wake Tech
The Associate degree Nursing program is directed toward the preparation of graduates who competently fulfill the professional roles as a member within the discipline of nursing, manager of care, and provider of care. Additionally, the nurse must understand the nursing process and the wellness-illness continuum as well as be knowledgeable about pathophysiology, nutrition, pharmacotherapeutics, and human growth and development. As a member of the discipline of nursing, the nurse is responsible for ensuring high standards of nursing practice. It is essential that the nurse understands ethical standards and the legal framework for nursing. In addition, the nurse must be committed to self-development and must demonstrate caring for himself/herself and for others.
Education is a dynamic, life-long process of developing insights, acquiring knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, and beliefs. Students are involved in this process as adult learners and assume responsibility for their own learning. The learner is viewed as an active participant in a setting, which fosters caring, creativity, problem solving, critical thinking, and professionalism. Cognitive, psychomotor and affective learning domains are integrated throughout the educational process.
Educational preparation for nursing occurs in institutions of higher learning where relevant learning experiences progress from simple to complex. Learning experiences are designed to assist in developing competencies necessary for making nursing decisions and providing safe care. The goal of the Wake Technical Community College Department of Nursing Education is to prepare registered nurses to provide quality care and work interdependently with other health care providers.
